Skin Care Haul – Nip + Fab
The Nip and Fab range has always intrigued me, it always catches my eye and every time I see it in stores I will spend a good 10 minutes browsing through their range. Why I have never tried it is purely down to my skin. Combination of oily and dehydrated. For as long as I can remember my skin has been a constant struggle. From my teens to now in my early (Ok… mid-ish) thirties I have always suffered with bad skin. I have been through various topical prescribed treatments, over the counter Benzoyl Peroxide creams, contraceptive pills, Roacutane, the works. Although now I am at a stage where I don’t get huge breakouts, just 3 or 4 spots at a time but in the most random places, and when they do appear boy do they make a show of it! In all honesty it isn’t the actual zits that bother me, yes of course I’d rather not have them in the first place, it’s more the healing process, red marks and scarring left behind. Those marks often make the situation look a lot worse than my skin actually is and take forever to fade. I will always have a number of small bumps under my skin from having clogged pores. Never actually result in a spot and don’t go red but will stay there for ages and make my skin look very unevenly textured.
Forever I have been trying to find a product that will care of my uneven skin tone, brighten my skin and boost hydration and skin rejuvenation but have been reluctant to branch out to the pricey high end products through fear of them not working. I strongly believe that my work life balance has a fair bit to do with my skin issues, especially in my later years. I work full time, 24/7 shifts, florescent lights, only 2 windows (neither of which open), constant high stress levels, irregular meal times and non existent sleep pattern. It isn’t really a good foundation for great skin. Hence over the years I have been more about the cover up than the skin care itself. Why pay out for high end skin products if my lifestyle isn’t great for my skin?
So, a few days ago, during my weekly high street online browse, I noticed that Superdrug had an offer on the Nip and Fab range, 2 for £18. Now I’m a sucker for a bargain and yes I have fallen victim to a good BOGOF on a product I don’t even need. However if the price of one particular N & F bottle of Hyaluronic Shot is £24.95 then you buddy have my full attention! I also have to say that there are a huge amount of rave reviews for these products online so at such a bargain it was definitely a good time to try them out. Being an impatient human I decided I didn’t want to order online and wait to pick up in store, I needed to try these immediately so off I went to my local store. Instant gratification is my middle name. I wants it and I wants it now!
The first item I picked up was the oh so popular Glycolic Fix Daily Cleansing Pads, priced at £12.95 for 60 pads. These are soaked in glycolic acid (2.8%), hyaluronic acid acid and blue daisy. Glycolic acid is an AHA (alpha hydroxy acid) naturally derived from sugar cane. It acts as an exfoliant which gently remove dead skin cells revealing fresh, younger looking skin. It also evens uneven skin tone, reduces age spots and can even help with acne breakouts and black heads. Hyaluronic acid revitalises skin’s outer layers so they look and feel softer, smoother, and glowingly hydrated to instantly improve the appearance of fine lines and wrinkles. It also has the ability to retain over a 1000 times its weight in water within the cells of skin, making it an excellent moisturiser and an increasingly popular ingredient in skincare today. Blue daisy brightens, calms and soothes stressed problem skin while reducing inflammation.
On first impression the pads are extremely well soaked in product and have a very pleasant fresh scent. One pad, front and back, easily covered my face and neck on one application and is advised to use twice a day in the morning and evening. One tub of 60 pads should easily last 1 month, fingers crossed! It is also advised to make sure you wear an appropriate SPF product to protect your skin from the sun when using products containing Glycolic acid as it can be extremely vulnerable during the cell removal process.
The next product is one of three facial serums from the range. Serums are something I’ve never really delved into too much but after reading the great things said about the N & F reviews I thought I would take up the opportunity to give them a go while the prices were so great. I opted for 2 of the more intensive concentrates, or ‘shots’ and the No Needle Fix Serum.
The N & F Exfoliate Fix Radiance Shot contains glycolic acid, as mentioned above, to retexture and resurface the skin to reveal smoother, softer and radiant skin. Fruit acids to stimulate skin cell renewal, resulting in a younger and fresher appearance and amino acid derivatives to reduce the appearance of pigmentation. This product really is silky to the touch and has a beautiful pale blue appearance with a subtle gold sheen which instantly brightens skin on contact. This product can be used alone as a concentrated treatment or a drop or 2 can be added to your desired moisturiser or skin serum for an added radiance boost with a very fresh citrus scent which I absolutely love. This product is priced at £19.95 for 30ml and comes in a glass bottle with glass pipette which I absolutely love for a high end product feel.
Next up is the N & F Dragons Blood Fix Hyaluronic Shot which contains dragons blood and Hyaluronic acid. Hyaluronic acid (50% solution) maintains skins plumpness and is super hydrating to help reduce fine lines and wrinkles and soften and smooth skin for a radiant and younger looking complexion. Dragons blood gets its name as it is a deep blood red sap from the Amazonian Croton Lechleri tree, again a naturally derived ingredient, protecting the skin from any environmental nasties and encouraging skin cell regeneration, as well as reducing inflammation and redness. Use alone or combining it with a moisturiser or serum. It has a soft fresh fragrance and is clear in appearance with a slight red tint and feels like a dream. Gel like but super absorbing. This product is priced at £24.95 for 30ml and comes in the same glass bottle packaging.
Last but not least, the N & F No Needle Fix Serum. This products is described as a revolutionary plumping + volumising serum for a younger looking skin. It contains CellActive® – form, firming and volumises the look of wrinkles. Oat extract, tenses + smooths the appearance of the skin and cassia angustifolia seed hydrates + softens skin. The pump bottle dispenses more than enough product per pump, has a beautiful white pearlescent sheen to it and has a subtle clean fragrance. Priced at £19.95 for 50ml I am really hoping this product lasts a while as I have found that even after uses when combined with 2 drops of the concentrated shots just half a pump of this serum is enough to cover my face and neck.
I am really hopeful about these products and I’m looking forward to seeing if these products give my skin the boost it desperately needs. As already mentioned I purchased these products from my local Superdrug store at the fabulous price of 2 for £18! Full price this would have cost me £77.80 and I saved a whopping total of £41.80 on these 4 products alone. (A no brainer when 3 of the 4 products are priced higher than £18 at full r.r.p.) I will be back with a full review of how these products worked for me in a few weeks and in the meantime I will definitely be browsing through the entire make up and body care range too. Full range of skin, body and make-up products are available at Superdrug online.
