Barry M – Liquid Chrome Highlighter Drops
On a recent trip to town I made a beeline for Superdrug to check out the new Liquid Chrome Highlighter Drops by Barry M. I have seen so many photos and swatch videos on the Barry M Instagram page and they looked absolutely stunning. They are a brand new liquid highlighter that came into Superdrug stores just 7 days ago, also available in Boots stores as of today, and boy was my local store cleaned out! As with any new product the stand was almost bare so clearly they lived up to their beautiful highlighter hype. It seemed that whatever was left had been used as a tester but luckily as there was a number of stands around the store I was able to find them all to swatch them. One thing I really disliked was the fact that there was no plastic seal on them, clearly they had been swatched like mad and all the bottles were caked in the product. I was able to locate two that looked un-tested and one of them was hiding in amongst the nail polishes. Sneaky!
The packaging is very similar to their nail polishes, a square glass bottle with a glass dropper, certainly looking more high end than high street and comparable to some of the other more expensive highlighter drops out there. There are 5 shades available in total. Moon Potion, a pale base with a soft pale blue multi shimmer. Precious Pearl, a pale base with a soft pink multi shimmer. Liquid Fortune, a deep golden bronze. Then the 2 that I purchased are Beam Me Up, a warm champagne pale gold and At First Light, a slightly cooler toned rose gold.
The two shades I chose are more subtle and neutral highlighters that aren’t too white or pearly coloured. The consistency does start to set quickly if you don’t blend it in quick enough but it does have quite a dry but dewy finish and shimmer is just to die for. I didn’t find it necessary but it layers easily to build up some the highlight also. Less is definitely more! This is the first time I have used highlighter drops and I have to say I am thoroughly impressed. They can be used alone, on top of make up or simply add a drop to your highlighter for an all over glow.
Below is a swatch of ‘at first light’ which is a pinky, rose shade. Very pretty and works well paired with a pale pink blush, a look which I tend to sway towards in winter and spring.
Next is ‘beam me up’ which is much more of a sand gold, champagne colour. Very glam when paired with a bronzer without going too dark.
Priced at just £6.99* these highlighter drops really are on the more affordable end of the make up spectrum. One drop goes a really long way so I see these drops really lasting me, the photo below shows how much product you get from just 1 drop, it is quite a thick formula. My only concern is if they will end up drying out or how easy it will be to get to the product once the dropper no longer reaches it. Time will tell!
Barry M Liquid Chrome Highlighter Drops are available from Superdrug and Boots, both in-store and online. They are also available internationally from Barry M online and ASOS. They really are flying off the shelves so snap some up quick!
